A couple weeks ago I purchased a copy of Rockband for the Xbox 360. After we got it I stayed up that first night and sung the song Creep by Radiohead like 8-10 times until my throat hurt and my voice was hoarse. I don't do good at the part where he sings Ruuuuuuuuunnnnnn because it is too high. I suck. I love singing that song. There was a couple days last week where I would sing a song right before I would get on the MAX and head in to work. I wish I was a better singer. The mic detects your pitch and you get points for being on key. That is so cool.
My wife loves this game. Jasmine loves watching us play it and sings along, but gets intimidated when she has to actually play it. She does love practicing the guitar and drums where then is no music. Now I'm wondering if we should get some actual instruments and let the kids start taking lessons. Tyler is obviously too young as he just barely turned three in December, so I'll keep working with him on the golf course instead. But Jasmine is a seven-year-old first-grader. She's already been through a year of golf, participates in the school chess club, and girl scouts. I think she's ready to at least start doing piano lessons. Yeah, that's probably the way to go with her right now.
I believe Rockband was a very smart purchase. Carrie and I often play it together, where I do drums and she does guitar. It let's everyone particpate and be involved in however they want, whether as playing guitar, bass, drums, singing lead, or watching. When I visit my family back in Idaho this summer I'll be bringing this along with us. I'm excited to play it with my brothers and sisters. This game is so freaking awesome!!!
I was on the visitmix site last week and saw an announcement that there will be Rockband contests going on there at MIX. I definitely shouldn't sing, although I'd love to. I've been practicing my singing, and got 100% singing Wonderwall by Oasis on the easy level. Yeah, the easy level, don't give me any crap, it will shatter my self-esteem.
I've been spending some time time practicing drums and with a couple weeks to go I ought to be able to at least get good enough not to embarrass myself. Even if I do horrible, it will be a blast and I'm way looking forward to it.
