I've been paying attention to the Boise Code Camp (download flyer) for about 12 months now. No lie, I'm dead serious. I really wanted to attend it last year, yet before I knew it the day of camping had both come and gone. I was not going to make that same mistake this year. I'm very excited and ready for it, can you tell? Check out this marketing blurb:
The 2008 Boise Code Camp, the largest gathering of technical professionals in the inland northwest, will be Saturday, March 8th. Doors will open at 8:00 for registration, and we'll have as much free coffee as you can drink. Plan to spend the entire day with new technologies and brushing up on fundamentals. We know that camping can be exhausting, so not only will we feed you lunch, we'll feed you dinner too.
Please plan on joining us after camp for our now nearly famous (free) after party brought to you by The Code Trip guys. You'll rub elbows with fellow campers and counselors, chat up sponsor representatives, geek out with the Code Trip guys, play massive sized video games, and potentially win some great swag.
How can anyone read that and then not want to show up?! Some interesting things to note about this very special code camp:
- Speaker / Presentation List (PDF).
- Code Camp will be held in the School of Business and Economics building at Boise State University (Map).
- This is one of the first stops for the Code Trip. These guys are sponsoring the after party at the BSU Hall of Fame Room. There will be prizes, video games, food, drinks, and fun.
- Scott Hanselman will be delivering the first keynote. Scott's a good guy and is fun to listen to. Although last year he did a special PADNUG event, "Silverlight for Developers" right after MIX and a week before I kicked off the PDXUX.Net group. Strategically I had to change the title of my presentation to "Silverlight for Designers". Yeah, I'm not a designer, but whatever. It worked out great in the end. I have strategically chosen my code camp presentation topic so as not have a similar situation this year.
Also, Scott is presenting ASP.NET MVC during the same time I am presenting Silverlight 1.0. I relish the challenge, but *sigh*, that means I'm going to be stuck with the smaller room. - I will be presenting on "Uses for Silverlight 1.0". I still believe Silverlight 1.0 is the perfect starting point for learning Silverlight and that people shouldn't wait until Silverlight 2 is released. I've been thinking of merging in some material on migrating from Silverlight 1.0 to Silverlight 2, but I'm wondering if Erik Mork will be covering some of that in his presentation. I've got two weeks to finish fleshing out that last bit, so we'll see what happens there.
